A four-year professionally accredited MSci, F103
Imperial says the course develops core and applied chemistry through to Master's level and is professionally accredited. Options include a year in industry and research abroad.
Undergraduate · Imperial Chemistry MSci
Imperial's Chemistry MSci is a four-year, professionally accredited course that runs from core and applied chemistry to a six-month independent research project in an academic group. It asks for AAA or 38 IB points with Chemistry and Mathematics, uses no admissions test and interviews shortlisted applicants. Because it is an integrated Master's with options for a year in industry or research abroad, the decision is whether you want a research-led route to Master's level in chemistry rather than a shorter or more applied degree.

Imperial says the course develops core and applied chemistry through to Master's level and is professionally accredited. Options include a year in industry and research abroad.
The minimum A-level standard is AAA to include A in Chemistry, A in Mathematics and A in a third subject. The IB standard is 38 points with 6 in Chemistry, Mathematics and a third subject at Higher Level.
The typical offer is A*AA at A level and 39 to 40 IB points. Imperial says typical offers can be higher than the minimum.
Imperial says the department does not use a test. Shortlisted applicants are interviewed individually by an experienced academic.
The final year centres on a six-month independent research project in one of the department's research groups.

The course
Imperial says students explore fundamental chemistry through interdisciplinary modules during the first two years, covering inorganic, organic, physical, analytical, synthetic and computational chemistry, before specialising across advanced topics. An extensive laboratory programme builds practical skills and an understanding of experimental measurements and computational models, with research skills from finding reliable information to designing an investigation. In the third year students examine emergent industry 4.0 approaches such as rapid prototyping, 3D printing, electronics and machine learning. The final year is an independent research project of six months. Teaching is mainly at South Kensington, with opportunities at the Molecular Sciences Research Hub in White City.
Is it the right chemistry degree?
Avandy's Oxford Chemistry and Imperial Chemical Engineering guides cover other chemistry-related degrees, each with its own entry rules.
you want a research-led route to Master's level in chemistry, with laboratory work throughout and a six-month project, and are comfortable with Mathematics alongside Chemistry.
you want chemistry applied to processes and plants. Avandy's Imperial Chemical Engineering guide covers that route.
Oxford has its own course and admissions test arrangements; Avandy's Oxford Chemistry guide records them. Compare by course, not by name.
Entry rules
The A-level standard is AAA to include Chemistry, Mathematics and a third subject, with Biology, Physics and Further Mathematics preferred; typical offers are A*AA. The IB standard is 38 points with 6 in Chemistry, Mathematics and a third subject at Higher Level, with 39 to 40 as the typical offer. There is no admissions test. Shortlisted applicants are interviewed individually in an interview programme that includes a talk about the course; Imperial says the discussion may start from your personal statement but is likely to expand to topics you may not know well, to see how you reason through a problem. The page shows 8 applications for every place for 2025; that is a historical ratio, not a requirement or a prediction.
A decision framework
This is Avandy's own framework, not Imperial's.
The final year is a six-month research project, and the course is designed as a route to Master's level.
Both are required at A level and Higher Level.
These are separate study options with their own length; read each before applying.
Planning for 2028 entry
Applying for 2028 entry means applying in 2027, under rules Imperial has not yet published for that cycle. Each item below carries one of two labels. Last verified for 2027 entry means Imperial published it for the previous cycle and it may change. Awaiting publication for 2028 entry means Imperial has not yet published it.
These are the best guide to what to prepare. Imperial has not confirmed them for 2028 entry.
Check Imperial's course page for the 2028-entry values when they appear.
Confirm Chemistry and Mathematics, build laboratory understanding and prepare to reason aloud about unfamiliar problems.
Support
Avandy provides independent academic and admissions support. It is not affiliated with Imperial College London or any of its colleges or departments. Preparation sits within the Avandy Trinity Advisory Model: a Strategic Admissions Consultant, a PhD-level Academic Mentor and a Subject-specific Tutor, working to the actual requirements of each course. Support here means course-fit advice, chemistry and mathematics mentoring and ethical interview practice; Avandy gives no scores or probabilities and does not supply interview questions. No outcome is promised.
