LSE Psychological and Behavioural Science: psychology with a social-science lens

LSE's BSc Psychological and Behavioural Science brings psychology and behavioural science into one degree, explored from both social science and natural science perspectives, and is accredited by the British Psychological Society. It asks for A*AA including at least one of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics or Psychology, and a high level of numeracy. The distinct question is whether you want psychology that is applied to social questions in health, education and policy, with strong research-design and statistics training, rather than a more laboratory-led or clinically oriented psychology degree.

What LSE asks for in Psychological and Behavioural Science

Taken from LSE's BSc Psychological and Behavioural Science programme page and read on 31 October 2026. For a normal 2028-entry application, made in 2027, every requirement below is last verified for the previous cycle and may change; LSE's 2028-entry requirements and dates are awaiting publication.

Psychology and behavioural science in one degree, C800

LSE describes an unusual combination of psychology and behavioural science, from social science and natural science perspectives, accredited by the British Psychological Society. It lasts three years.

A*AA with a science or Mathematics, or 39 IB points

The A-level requirement is A*AA including at least one of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics or Psychology; the contextual offer is AAA with the same condition. The IB requirement is 39 points overall including 766 at higher level with one of those subjects at higher level.

GCSE Mathematics at A (7)

LSE asks for GCSE English Language at B (6) or higher and Mathematics at A (7) or higher.

Strong scientific ability and numeracy

LSE says you should have strong scientific abilities with at least one grade A in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics or Psychology, and looks for high levels of numeracy.

Research design and statistics throughout

Students learn to conduct empirical research, including qualitative approaches, and take compulsory statistics and research methods courses in the first and second years.

LSE's general entry requirements and English-language pages, the fees pages, the contextual-offer details and the 2028-entry values were not read, and the page lists no additional admissions test or interview so none is stated and are not stated.

The programme

Foundations, statistics and the core areas of psychology

In the first year students take Foundations of Psychological Science, Foundations of Behavioural Science and a compulsory Statistics and Research Methods course, plus LSE100 and one unit of outside options. In the second year they take Intermediate Statistics and Research Methods and five compulsory half-unit courses: Biological Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Social Psychology: Individuals, Groups and Culture, and Individual Differences and Why They Matter. LSE says students learn how psychological and behavioural science theories can be applied to social issues in areas such as health and education, and graduates progress to careers in government, NGOs and the private sector.

Which psychology degree?

LSE, or another psychology degree?

Avandy has guides to UCL Psychology and to Oxford's Experimental Psychology, each with different rules. Compare by course.

Choose LSE if

you want psychology and behavioural science together, applied to policy, health and education, with strong training in research design and statistics.

Choose UCL Psychology if

you prefer its scientific-methods framing. Avandy's guide records an A-level requirement of A*AA with A*A from two sciences, and a different IB pattern.

Choose Oxford Experimental Psychology if

you want the Oxford tutorial and TARA route. Avandy's guide records A*AA, IB 39 with 766 at Higher Level and the TARA requirement.

Entry rules
