Fit

Who the entry rule describes

The page names economics, finance, mathematics, econometrics and statistics and says other disciplines may be considered if the background is sufficiently quantitative.

An economics or finance graduate

Both are named subjects. The course adds data science with Python, time series analysis, big data analysis and machine learning to a finance core.

A mathematics or statistics graduate

These are named subjects. The finance core covers the economics of financial markets, capital structure decisions and investment, which may be new to you.

A graduate from another discipline

The page says such degrees may be considered if the background is sufficiently quantitative. Show the quantitative evidence on your CV.

Decision

What the 11 months contain

The page describes two core modules in each of the first two terms, an elective portfolio of four optional modules and a finance research project. The readings below are Avandy's judgment (heuristic), not UCL's.

The core

Corporate Finance and Financial Markets, Financial Econometrics and Data Science, Time Series Analysis and Forecasting and Big Data Analytics, then the Finance with Data Science Research Project.

Electives

Listed options include Options and Derivatives, The Economics of Trading and Exchanges, Investment Strategies and Risk Management, Advanced Corporate Finance, International Finance and Behavioural Finance and Neuroeconomics. The page says availability is subject to change.

Avandy's judgment (heuristic, not a university rule)

The page signals that this is a finance course first. If you want the strongest technical emphasis, compare the module lists of related courses in London before choosing, and decide where the research project would be best aimed.

Application

A CV-led application and the optional tests

The page makes the CV central and the statement optional.

CV

It should attest to your academic and professional background and how prepared you are for the demands of the course, with specific dates, positions held, company names and locations.

GRE or GMAT

Not required initially. A GRE quantitative score of at least 165 adds weight, and GMAT or GMAT Focus results may be submitted without a stated minimum.

Avandy's judgment (heuristic, not a university rule)

Use the optional statement only for specific information the CV cannot carry, such as a gap or an unusual route. Decide on the GRE early if your degree title does not make your quantitative strength obvious.

Planning

Planning for the September 2027 start

The page describes a September 2027 start, and the dates above belong to that cycle.

What to do now

Check your degree against the named subjects, update the CV with specific dates and roles, decide on the GRE or GMAT and request two references. Re-read the page before submitting, because UCL says module content and availability can change.

Support

Support sits within the Avandy Trinity Advisory Model: a Strategic Admissions Consultant, a PhD-level Academic Mentor and a Subject-specific Tutor, working to the published requirements of each course.
