UCL Robotics and AI: a four-year MEng with a top mathematics bar

UCL's Robotics and Artificial Intelligence MEng is a four-year interdisciplinary engineering degree for students who want to build intelligent robots. Its entry standard is A*A*A with A* in Mathematics or Further Mathematics, and the IB asks for a 7 in Mathematics. The decision is whether you want the engineering of physical intelligent systems rather than software alone.

UCAS H700, four years

UCL describes a four-year MEng in robotics and artificial intelligence.

A*A*A with A* in Mathematics or Further Mathematics

The A-level requirement is A*A*A, with A* in either Mathematics or Further Mathematics.

IB 20 points with Mathematics at 7

20 points in three higher level subjects including grade 7 in Mathematics; Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches is preferred.

A top grade standard

A*A*A is among UCL's highest A-level requirements for engineering.

Mathematics at the top

A* in Mathematics or Further Mathematics and, for the IB, a 7 in Mathematics are required.

The course

Intelligent machines, built and tested

UCL describes an exciting, interdisciplinary course where students absorb cutting-edge research and use it to engineer real-world solutions, in a field where robots support people with complex, tedious and dangerous physical tasks. The course is an integrated MEng of four years.

Is it the right degree?

Against Computer Science and other engineering degrees

UCL and Imperial teach neighbouring degrees with different emphasis.

Choose Robotics and AI if

you want to engineer physical intelligent systems and have top mathematics.

Choose UCL Computer Science if

you want software, theory and computing broadly. Avandy's UCL Computer Science guide covers it.

Compare Imperial's Computing AI route if

you want AI inside a computing degree. Avandy's Imperial Computing AI and Machine Learning guide covers it.

Entry rules

A*A*A with A* in Mathematics or Further Mathematics

A-level applicants need A*A*A with A* in either Mathematics or Further Mathematics. IB applicants need 20 points in three higher level subjects including a 7 in Mathematics, with Analysis and Approaches preferred. UCL's page lists no admissions test or interview. This page states no scores.

A decision framework

Three questions before you commit

This is Avandy's own framework, not UCL's.

Do you want to build physical systems?

Robotics is hardware as well as software.

Is A* in Mathematics realistic?

It is the central subject requirement.

Are you ready for a four-year integrated MEng?

The course runs four academic years.

Planning for 2028 entry

Planning for 2028 entry: what carries over and what is awaiting publication

Applying for 2028 entry means applying in 2027, under rules UCL has not yet published for that cycle. Each item below carries one of two labels. Last verified for 2027 entry means UCL published it for the previous cycle and it may change. Awaiting publication for 2028 entry means UCL has not yet published it.

Support

Independent support with course choice and preparation

Avandy provides independent academic and admissions support. It is not affiliated with University College London or any of its colleges or departments. Preparation sits within the Avandy Trinity Advisory Model: a Strategic Admissions Consultant, a PhD-level Academic Mentor and a Subject-specific Tutor, working to the actual requirements of each course. Support here means course-fit advice, subject mentoring and ethical preparation; Avandy gives no scores or probabilities and does not write applications. No outcome is promised.
