A three-year BSc, B800
Delivered by the Department of Bioengineering; Imperial describes an entrepreneurial mindset and skills for improving healthcare through technology.
Undergraduate · Imperial Biomedical Technology Ventures
Imperial's Biomedical Technology Ventures BSc, taught in the Department of Bioengineering, is a three-year degree that trains students to spot opportunities in healthcare technology and build solutions: it combines mathematics, medical science, device prototyping and programming with an industry start-up internship. It is not a clinical degree and not a conventional engineering degree. The decision is whether you want the entrepreneurial angle.

The degree
Imperial says the course balances lectures, workshops, laboratory sessions and seminars across mathematics, medical science, device prototyping and computer programming, with insight into the medical device industry and the entrepreneurial paths into a career. Project-based modules run throughout. A Year in Industry pathway exists, but it is not available through UCAS and is allocated in the second year at the Programme Lead's discretion.
Is it the right degree?
The three degrees overlap in subject matter but not in purpose.
you want to build and commercialise healthcare technology and like mathematics and prototyping.
you want the engineering degree itself. Avandy's Imperial Biomedical Engineering guide covers it.
you want to treat patients. Avandy's Imperial Medicine guide covers that route.
Entry rules
A-level applicants need A*AA including A* in Mathematics and A in Biology, Chemistry or Physics, with another science, Further Mathematics or Economics useful but not required; the typical offer is A*AA to A*A*A. IB applicants need 39 points with 6 in Mathematics, a science and another subject at Higher Level. There is no test. This page states no scores.
A decision framework
This is Avandy's own framework, not Imperial's.
Enterprise and start-up experience are core to the degree.
It is a stated condition.
Prototyping and a design-and-make project run through the course.
Planning for 2028 entry
Applying for 2028 entry means applying in 2027, under rules Imperial has not yet published for that cycle. Each item below carries one of two labels. Last verified for 2027 entry means Imperial published it for the previous cycle and it may change. Awaiting publication for 2028 entry means Imperial has not yet published it.
These are the best guide to what to prepare. Imperial has not confirmed them for 2028 entry.
