A three-year BSc, L1N3
Delivered by the Imperial Business School; Imperial describes it as combining economics and finance with data science and its applications.
Undergraduate · Imperial EFDS
Imperial's Economics, Finance and Data Science BSc is taught by the Business School and describes itself as a first-of-its-kind degree. It asks for A* in Mathematics, makes the TMUA compulsory and tells applicants no prior knowledge of economics, finance or data science is expected at the interview. The decision for an applicant is therefore less about prior subject knowledge than about whether a mathematically demanding, coding-heavy economics degree is the one you want.
Official information · last verified for 2027 entry
Taken from Imperial's Economics, Finance and Data Science BSc course page and read on 31 October 2026. For a normal 2028-entry application, made in 2027, every requirement below is last verified for the previous cycle and may change; Imperial's 2028-entry requirements and dates are awaiting publication.

The A-level standard is A*AA including A* in Mathematics and AA in two other subjects. The IB standard is 39 points with 7 in Mathematics at Higher Level.
Imperial says either is useful but neither is required.
Imperial says applicants must sit the Test of Mathematics for University Admissions.
Successful candidates are invited to an online interview of 20 to 30 minutes, and Imperial does not expect prior knowledge of the subjects.

Read on 31 October 2026 on Imperial's Economics, Finance and Data Science BSc course page, which describes 2027 entry. Imperial Business School's own pages, the module descriptions, fees and the 2028-entry values were not read, and no other university's degree was read for this page and are not stated.
The degree
Imperial says the curriculum was designed by academics from each discipline with input from industry and public policy leaders, and aims to develop the analytical skills and coding capabilities required of the next generation of economists and researchers. Specialist modules on communication, teamwork and emotional intelligence sit alongside the technical study. The page read does not list the modules in a form this guide relies on, so this guide does not describe them.
Is it the right degree?
The entry rules show the degree's character: A* in Mathematics, the TMUA and a mathematics-led interview process.
you enjoy mathematics and programming and want to apply them to economic and financial questions.
you want pure and applied mathematics without the economics and finance. Avandy's Imperial Mathematics guide covers that.
you want a more traditional economics curriculum. Avandy's Oxford Economics and Management and UCL Economics guides cover two of them; compare by course, not by title.
Entry rules
A-level applicants need A*AA with A* in Mathematics and AA in two other subjects; IB applicants need 39 points with 7 in Mathematics at Higher Level and 6 in two other Higher Level subjects. The TMUA is compulsory. The interview is online and short, and Imperial says no particular preparation is needed. This page states no test scores.
A decision framework
This is Avandy's own framework, not Imperial's.
Imperial presents coding capability as part of the degree.
It is a stated condition of the minimum entry standard.
The TMUA is part of the application, not an optional extra.
Planning for 2028 entry
Applying for 2028 entry means applying in 2027, under rules Imperial has not yet published for that cycle. Each item below carries one of two labels. Last verified for 2027 entry means Imperial published it for the previous cycle and it may change. Awaiting publication for 2028 entry means Imperial has not yet published it.
These are the best guide to what to prepare. Imperial has not confirmed them for 2028 entry.
Check Imperial's course page for the 2028-entry values when they appear.
Check your mathematics and programming interest, and plan TMUA preparation.
Support
Avandy provides independent academic and admissions support. It is not affiliated with Imperial College London or any of its colleges or departments. Preparation sits within the Avandy Trinity Advisory Model: a Strategic Admissions Consultant, a PhD-level Academic Mentor and a Subject-specific Tutor, working to the actual requirements of each course. Support here means course-fit advice, subject mentoring and ethical preparation; Avandy gives no scores or probabilities and does not supply interview or test questions. No outcome is promised.
