LSE BSc Management: entry requirements and subject combinations

LSE's BSc Management is a quantitative management degree, and its entry rules reflect that: Mathematics is essential, LSE prefers traditional academic subjects to Business Studies, and there is no interview. This guide is written for families planning 2028 entry. Everything cycle-specific in it was last verified for 2027 entry, so treat it as the best guide to preparation and not as the 2028 requirement.

Official information · last verified for 2027 entry

What LSE asks for in Management

Taken from LSE's official BSc Management programme page and its undergraduate How to apply page, read on 21 October 2026. For a normal 2028-entry application, made in 2027, every requirement below is last verified for the previous cycle and may change; LSE's 2028-entry requirements and dates are awaiting publication.

AAA with an A in Mathematics

LSE's A-level offer is AAA, including an A in Mathematics, and the contextual offer is AAB including an A in Mathematics. As a minimum LSE asks for GCSE English Language and Mathematics at grade B (6) or higher. LSE cannot guarantee an offer even when grades meet the standard requirements.

The IB: 38 points with 766 at Higher Level

The IB Diploma offer is 38 points overall with 766 in Higher Level subjects including Mathematics, and the contextual IB offer is 37 points with 666 in Higher Level subjects including Mathematics.

Mathematics is essential; Business Studies is not preferred

A-level or equivalent Mathematics is essential. There is no set subject combination, but traditional academic subjects are preferred over subjects such as Business Studies or Accounting, and LSE expects at least two full A levels or equivalent in those subjects.

Further Mathematics helps but is not essential

LSE says Further Mathematics provides helpful preparation for this highly quantitative course, although it is not essential.

No interview

LSE's How to apply page says LSE does not interview applicants for any of its programmes.

Twelve units, a year abroad option

Students study 12 units over three years plus LSE100. They can apply for an exchange year abroad between the second and third years; the process is competitive and places are limited.

Official sources

Read on 21 October 2026 on LSE's BSc Management programme page and undergraduate How to apply page, which describe 2027 entry. The 2025 application figures quoted in the guide are history, not a requirement. The programme page lists no admissions test. Exchange partners and fees are not stated.

The course

Business fields on a quantitative base

The degree is a three-year BSc delivered by LSE's Department of Management, with UCAS code N200. In the first and second years students take foundation courses in accounting, finance, operations and information management, organisational behaviour, human resource management and marketing, and a compulsory third-year course provides a grounding in organisational strategy. LSE says disciplinary courses provide training in mathematical and statistical methods, economics and econometrics. It is not an accounting or finance degree and not an economics degree, so check those programme pages if either is your real target.

Reading the offer

Mathematics comes first, and subject choice matters

LSE's page is more specific about subjects than about grades.

The grades

AAA with an A in Mathematics at A level, or 38 points with 766 at Higher Level including Mathematics in the IB. The contextual offers are AAB and 37 points with 666.

Mathematics is essential

LSE says A-level or equivalent Mathematics is essential because of the analytical nature of the programme, together with the aptitude and willingness to develop further mathematical knowledge.

Choose traditional academic subjects

LSE says there is no set combination but prefers traditional academic subjects (natural sciences, English, Economics and the humanities) to subjects such as Business Studies or Accounting, and wants a broad mix. It gives examples such as History, Chemistry and Mathematics, or Geography, Biology and Physics.

Further Mathematics

Helpful, not essential. LSE will consider Mathematics, Further Mathematics and one other A level, ideally an essay-based subject.

The application

There is no interview, so the UCAS form carries the weight

LSE says it does not interview applicants for any of its programmes. It considers the details on the UCAS form: predicted and achieved grades, subjects and combinations, the personal statement, the teacher's reference and educational circumstances. It says it looks for an interest in and aptitude for a future management career, good mathematical skills and an interest in developing them, independent thinking, the capability to follow complex lines of reasoning, and strong communication, problem-solving and teamworking skills. The programme page lists no additional admissions test.

The year abroad

A competitive exchange between the second and third years

Students can apply for an exchange year abroad between the second and third years. LSE says the process is competitive and places are limited, and it lists current exchange partners on its programme page. Partners change, so check the page before you plan around one.

Context

How competitive the course has been

LSE's page shows 2,407 applications for 163 places for 2025, a ratio of 15:1. That is a historical figure about a past cohort. It is not a requirement and it does not predict any individual result.

Planning for 2028 entry

Grades, subject rules and the no-interview policy: last verified for 2027 entry

These are the best guide to what to prepare. LSE has not confirmed them for 2028 entry.

Application deadline and any change to contextual offers: awaiting publication for 2028 entry

Check LSE's programme page and its How to apply page for the 2028-entry values when they appear.

What to do now

Plan Mathematics at A level or in the IB, choose a broad mix of traditional academic subjects, and use the personal statement to show quantitative interest and management motivation.
