What LSE asks for in Finance
Taken from LSE's official BSc Finance programme page and its undergraduate How to apply page, read on 25 October 2026. For a normal 2028-entry application, made in 2027, every requirement below is last verified for the previous cycle and may change; LSE's 2028-entry requirements and dates are awaiting publication.
A*AA with an A* in Mathematics
LSE's A-level offer is A*AA, with an A* in Mathematics, and the contextual offer is A*AB with an A* in Mathematics. As a minimum LSE asks for GCSE English Language and Mathematics at grade B (6) or higher. LSE cannot guarantee an offer even when grades meet the standard requirements.
The IB: 39 points with a 7 in Mathematics
The IB Diploma offer is 39 points overall with 766 in Higher Level subjects, including 7 in Mathematics. The contextual IB offer is 38 points with 766 at Higher Level and 7 in Mathematics.
Mathematics is essential; Further Mathematics is desirable
A-level Mathematics or equivalent is essential. Further Mathematics is desirable and accepted with Mathematics and one other A level, and LSE says you will not be disadvantaged if your school does not offer it. An A* in Further Mathematics with an A in Mathematics is also acceptable.
Subject combinations that show analytical and writing ability
Alongside Mathematics LSE looks for combinations showing good analytical and writing abilities. Typical subject choices include Economics, Physics, History, Chemistry, and Government and Politics.
No interview
LSE's How to apply page says LSE does not interview applicants for any of its programmes.
Twelve units over three years
The UCAS code is N300 and students study 12 units over three years plus LSE100, with Year 1 covering fundamental principles in finance, quantitative skills and introductory economics, mathematics and statistics.
