UCAS GF13, three years
UCL describes a three-year BSc that treats mathematics and physics equally.
Undergraduate · UCL Mathematics and Physics
UCL's Mathematics and Physics BSc treats the two subjects equally and asks for all three of Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics at the top: A*A*A, or A*AA with a 2 in a STEP paper or an AEA distinction. It is the hardest entry among UCL's mathematics-related degrees. The decision is whether you want both subjects in full rather than either alone.

UCL describes a three-year BSc that treats mathematics and physics equally.
A*A*A with A*A* in Mathematics and Further Mathematics and A in Physics, or A*AA with A*A and A in Physics plus a 2 in a STEP paper or an AEA distinction.
40 points overall with 20 in three higher level subjects including 7 in Mathematics and 6 in Physics, with a lower alternative that adds a STEP or AEA result.
The A-level standard asks for Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics.
UCL accepts A*AA together with a 2 in a STEP paper or a Distinction in the Mathematics AEA.

The course
UCL says physics and mathematics are inextricably linked and that a strong grounding in both pure and applied mathematics is essential for understanding physics, from classical mechanics to elementary particle theory. The degree gives each subject equal weight so each can reinforce the other.
Is it the right degree?
The full three-subject requirement is the difference.
you want rigorous mathematics and physics together and can offer Further Mathematics and Physics.
you want physics with less pure mathematics and no Further Mathematics requirement. Avandy's UCL Physics guide covers it.
you want mathematics alone. Avandy's UCL Mathematics guide covers it.
Entry rules
A-level applicants need A*A*A with A*A* in Mathematics and Further Mathematics and an A in Physics, or A*AA with A*A and an A in Physics together with a 2 in a STEP paper or an AEA distinction. IB applicants need 40 points overall with 20 in three higher level subjects including a 7 in Mathematics and a 6 in Physics, or a lower total with a STEP or AEA result. UCL's page lists no admissions test or interview. This page states no scores.
A decision framework
This is Avandy's own framework, not UCL's.
Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics are named.
Either can accompany an A*AA offer.
That is the degree's design.
Planning for 2028 entry
Applying for 2028 entry means applying in 2027, under rules UCL has not yet published for that cycle. Each item below carries one of two labels. Last verified for 2027 entry means UCL published it for the previous cycle and it may change. Awaiting publication for 2028 entry means UCL has not yet published it.
These are the best guide to what to prepare. UCL has not confirmed them for 2028 entry.
Check UCL's course page for the 2028-entry values when they appear.
Confirm the required subjects, read the course structure and plan your preparation around it.
Support
Avandy provides independent academic and admissions support. It is not affiliated with University College London or any of its colleges or departments. Preparation sits within the Avandy Trinity Advisory Model: a Strategic Admissions Consultant, a PhD-level Academic Mentor and a Subject-specific Tutor, working to the actual requirements of each course. Tell us about the student's curriculum, their Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics, whether STEP or the AEA is realistic and whether they want both subjects on an equal footing, the universities on the list, and the intended year of entry.
